Try Not To Cry This Christmas
Gentle snowdrifts in the backyard,
Shoveled sidewalks neatly cleared--
But it never snows at Christmas,
It usually rains this time of year.
And the shopping malls are crowded,
Faceless strangers rushing by.
You know it seems that "Christmas Spirit"
Is in very short supply.
Chorus
So try not to cry this Christmas
If it doesn't match your dreams,
Because we all find out at Christmas
Life is never what it seems.
All those Christmases remembered
Filtered through the sands of time,
With the love of friends and family
That some how seems so hard to find
But this is not some Christmas movie
Where an angel gets his wings--
It's just our over-expectations
From the image that we cling.
Chorus
Some will spend these days rejoicing,
For it's a time to celebrate
Others fall in deep reflection,
Still some try to compensate.
Life's not always what you wanted,
But it's always what you get.
So at Christmas count your blessings,
Say a prayer, and do your best.
